About Millersville
Millersville is an unincorporated town in Anne Arundel County. It was named after George Miller, who was the first Postmaster in the first post office that was constructed in July 1841, along the Annapolis & Elkridge Railroad (the A & E). Completed in 1840, the A&E railroad was one of the earliest rail lines in the U.S. It connected Annapolis with the Washington Branch of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad.
Today, Millersville is still a mostly suburban community consisting of many different types of neighborhoods and housing choices. You'll find condos, townhomes, rental apartments, single family detached homes and 55+ communities. Millersville contains, and is surrounded by both industrial and commercial developments.
The Childs Residence, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986, is a focal point of the town. This residence is significant because it was the home of George Miller. This residence served as the post office and community store for 130 years. The residence consists of 3 buildings: a) a circa 1840 frame dwelling b) a circa 1840 frame smoke/dairy house and c) a circa 1920 frame store.
